The Night of the Heads was the last William Sleator cover that I did. I think I did about 10 sketches before I came up with the one for this. You can see some of the sketches here. The scene that is taking place here is very similar to Close Encounters of the Third Kind, when Richard Dryfus is stopped at the railroad tracks.
